Objectives of the Awards

• To empower the beneficiaries with more exposure in the community.

• To allow the awardees to have greater exposure to learn about employment situations, practices and prospects.

• To support the awardees to experience the workplace first-hand and to pursue continuous training and studies to enhance their employment prospects and opportunities.

• To provide some financial support to the awardees to enable them to acquire assistive equipment and technology to enhance their employment prospects and opportunities.

Value of the Awards

For Post-Secondary applicants, up to 5 scholarship offers would be made with HK$10,000 for each awardee.

Each awardee will have one designated alumni as mentor, mentor and mentee will be matched in accordance with their disability/ disabilities / SENs and their career interests. The mentorship programme includes lunch and learn sessions with guest speakers from various sectors including entrepreneurs and business leaders and meeting with the mentor.

Purpose and Scope 

The Scholarship is set up to give recognition to students with disabilities / special educational needs (SENs) in the pursuit of excellence in participating in community services and commitment to the community, achievement in extra-curricular activities and their willingness to challenge themselves to experience new exposure. It is expected that their employment opportunities can be greatly enhanced upon the completion of the Programme. Academic Achievement is not the main focus in terms of selection criteria.

Eligibility

• Eligible Hong Kong Permanent Resident holding a valid Hong Kong Identity Card.
• Currently studying in or graduated from all UGC and non-UGC funded institutes/ degrees in Hong Kong (for Post-Secondary applicants).
• Undertake to (1) Attend the Award Ceremony to be held in June 2020, (2) Participate in the 6-month Mentorship Programme and related activities, (3) To be included in media related and promotional materials published by CareER, (4) To submit an article / a video on how to utilize the scholarship and the Mentorship Programme by 31 December 2020 and (5) Being a mentor for the Senior-Secondary Awardees in their Mentorship Programme, to share their experience when switching from Secondary Education to Post-Secondary Education.

Application Process

• Eligible and interested student to complete and submit the application form (with a copy of sutdent ID card / university graduate certificate, CV in English and SEN proof) to scholarship@career.org.hk no later than 24 April 2020.
• Suitable applicants will be invited to attend an interview in May. The judging panel will consist of member(s) from Executive Committee of CareER and CareER team.
• The results of the awards will be announced in around June. The awardees will be notified of the results by an e-mail notice. They are required to acknowledge the results by replying to the e-mail within 5 working days. CareER reserves the right of any final decision.
• An Award Ceremony will be scheduled in June 2020. All awardees are required to attend the Ceremony. CareER reserves the right of any final decision.

Timeline and Important Notes

While CareER will be responsible for the matching, CareER would also consider and respect the wills of our alumni thus it is not guaranteed that the mentee can be arranged a mentor who has the same disability/ disabilities/ SENs and career interest. CareER reserves the right on any final decision.
